Our Vision
Habitat for Humanity International is a nonprofit housing organization. We welcome everyone to join us as we build simple, affordable houses in partnership with those who lack adequate shelter. Habitat for Humanity for Summit and Wasatch Counties (HFHSWC) is an affiliate of Habitat International that serves Summit and Wasatch Counties.
Since 1976, Habitat International has built more than 200, 000 homes, providing shelter for nearly 1,000,000 people worldwide. Now at work in 100 countries, we are building a house every 21 minutes and have sheltered more than 1 million people world-wide. Plans are in place to build 4 homes for needy families in 2008 -- 2 in Park City and 2 in Heber City. This means that we will help 4 more families escape their current sub-standard living conditions and become safely housed in our community.
We build and sell modest homes to low-income families at no interest. In order to increase the home affordability, we arrange for donated labor and materials and vary the term of the mortgage so we can serve those rejected by standard mortgage criteria. HFHSWC is supported by tax-deductible donations of money and materials and is staffed almost exclusively by volunteers. Volunteers work side-by-side with our recipient families, who invest hundreds of hours of "sweat equity" into their homes and the homes of others. Our recipient families' mortgage payments go into a revolving "Fund For Humanity" that is used to build more homes for families in need.
Habitat for Humanity builds more than houses -- it builds homes, enriches lives, and strengthens communities.
